Mike Trout? Jose Ramirez? Jose Altuve? Aaron Judge? They don’t even belong in the same sentence as Markus Lynn Betts. So far, Mookie is having an absolutely historic season. He is the best player on the best Red Sox team ever, and is only getting hotter as the playoffs approach. He is the best player in baseball and if you think otherwise, well, you’re wrong.
Mookie Betts leads the MLB in WAR (8.1), batting average (.350), slugging % (.668), and OPS (1.106), and he is 2nd in OBP (.439) and runs scored (99), and is in the top ten in hits (139), total bases (265) and doubles (35). He is atop all of these categories despite missing 20 games due to injury. He is the driving force behind the first place Red Sox who currently have the best record in baseball by 10 games. Betts doesn’t just hit. He is regarded as the best right fielder in baseball, and he’s eighth in the MLB in stolen bases with 24.
Betts, 25, is an unrestricted free agent in 2021 and the Sox need to do everything they can to make sure he is suiting up in red and white for the rest of his career. Mookie is just reaching his prime, and if he keeps this pace up, we are looking at a multi time MVP and a surefire hall of famer. Regarding how he feels about Boston, Betts said, “I love it in Boston. It’s got a lot to offer. It’s just a matter of getting out there and seeing it. It’s kind of tough when you have a game every day. But there’s a lot of things Boston can offer that you’ve just got to get out there and see. You have to do it more in the offseason, but it’s definitely fun.” Red Sox nation certainly loves him too.
Congratulations to the 2018 AL MVP, Mookie Betts, who is going to carry the Boston Red Sox all the way a World Series victory.
